The law in New York state is that if anyone, regardless of gender, becomes voluntarily intoxicated—meaning you chose to drink or take drugs and were not forced—then you cannot legally claim you were raped. As a young woman looking into this case, I think Jane Doe understood what was happening. She possibly had a crush on Matthew Ingalls, and in her own report, she was flirtatious with him. She then turns around and calls the 'consensual' activity rape after she is disinvited from the Chi Phi Halloween party. I think both sides are at fault. It is sad that they were engaging in that type of activity, and I think it truly shows how people need to learn morals nowadays. I don't really see a clear victim or perpetrator case; I think many people are taking sides online either because they don't know the full story or choose not to hear both sides. I think we should collectively leave that decision up to the result of the civil lawsuit where Jane Doe is suing multiple parties involved, and see how it turns out. Anyways, I hope y'all stay safe and smart!
