The problem with this story and many other stories presented in the media and the type of explanations we always hear about this type of event being about the patriarchy against innocent women is doing us a really big disservice. What happened here is that an immature, probably ignorant, snobby & entitled (greek system) young woman with some mental health issues and substance use disorder thought she was being fun and open minded (and possibly status seeking) by agreeing to have a threesome with some dickish, entitled, frat jerks (google their faces) who she found attractive, while being heavily intoxicated. It turns out (surprise, surprise!) these guys were more eager to score points with their fraternity bros (see toxic culture & group think) than behave ethically towards her and invited their brothers to join in, resulting in some sort of sketchy group sex situation. It's not black and white whether and where this turns from legal to illegal (especially since there is no objective information and everyone was intoxicated), but the more important and clear aspect of this is that the Greek system (and society at large) is toxic and made up of psychopathic jerks who lack basic humanity, who use and abuse each other for status seeking and their primal drives. In reality, all these assholes should be expelled and not allowed to ever be in a position of power, not because what they did was clearly illegal, but because it shows a lack of character and likelihood of engaging in (or tolerating) abuse of power when presented with the opportunity. The victim herself is not faultless and showed terrible judgement throughout as well and should likely undergo mental health and substance abuse treatment (and also not be allowed to positions of power , in her case , due to bad judgement, although I would not be surprised to find out she's not the best person either given her Green participation). We're deluding ourselves if we think this is about gender power issues- this is and has always been about our system allowing people of low moral character to rise socially, continue their bad behavior, gain power and abuse others.
