**UPDATE:** Trending conversations has a new algorithm to ensure stale conversations don't stay trending.
Starting with the original post:
Replies: *2 points*
Engagements (including reply engagements): *1 point each*
Then a 72 hour half-life value decrease for each thereafter.
So, a reply and 2 engagements will get 4 points. After 72 hours it will decrease to 2 points, and then 72 more hours it will decrease to 1 point and so on for 12 days (or 4 half-life cycles, then it ends). If a reply or engagement comes later, it retains it's original value for the life of its half-life and adds to the previously decreased half-life value. We hope this algorithm works better to show more recent and relevant trending conversations.
We are fully transparent here with how we create, calculate and operate.
